Celebrate Kate Landers Baby Shower with Layla Grace!

Here it is!  I have been looking forward to this day for months!  I was so very generously asked to participate in the sweet goodness of this shower a few months ago, and now the big day is here.  I cannot thank Kate Landers enough for giving me the opportunity to participate!  The shower turned out beautifully and the pictures are just gorgeous!  The work from all the other artists left me speechless!

Cupcake toppers

These cupcake toppers where for my friend's daughter.  She just loves Aurthur.  She found the plates and napkins at a flea market for next to nothing and I made the toppers to go along with them.  I made the cupcakes these went on, but I did not get pictures of them before she came and got them.  I made two dozen total.  I did not think I would ever get done with them, but I had so much fun making them. :o)

Brownie Toppers

I was playing around with these the other day....brownie toppers.  They are about 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches and made from fondant.

Chocolate cookies!

I am in love with this new chocolate cookie recipe.  I messed around with several recipes I had and came up with this version that works for me.  I can make it plain chocolate, or with mini chocolate chips in it.  Both are delicious!  They can be decorated just like my shortbread sugar cookies.  They are so good with a cup of coffee too!

Happy 11th Birthday Indra!

This cake was for my dear friend's daughter's 11th birthday.  She asked if it could have the color lavendar, flowers, be kind of nature-y, and be chocolate.  I changed my mind 4 times on what to do and end the end this is what came to me.  Of course, those who know me, know that I am not happy with the buttercream, since I prefer to work with fondant, but they are vegetarians.  I was out of my regular fondant, which is vegan, and did not have time to order more in time, so I could not use homemade as it contains gelatin.

The flowers are made from gumpaste, as well as the name plaque.  The butterflies are edible wafer paper. Oh, and this cake was tiny, only a 6"and 4".
Thanks for looking!

Logo Cookies

These were for Knoxville Stone Interiors.  They are offering in home granite parties where you can ask questions, see samples, and talk to previous granite counter top clients, all while eating cookies!

These are my delicious buttery shortbread/sugar cookies topped with fondant and royal icing accents.  I also put a little bit of buttercream under my fondant, so my cookies are extra yummy.  I can bag these cookies individually with matching satin ribbon, or I can put them on a platter and wrap with cello and a matching ribbon.

Vintage Shabby Chic Baby Shower

Okie dokie here is a view of something I will be offering, hopefully this week or next.  I am now making cupcake, brownie, petit four, and thumbprint cookie toppers, in a addition to decorated cookies.  I offer customized sugar work to match your theme or event.  I will be offering the toppers by the dozen and the cookies can be gotten by the dozen or individually as favors, or as party platters.  The toppers are around 2 1/2 " across for cupcakes and the toppers are entirely edible.  Thanks for looking, and I hope to have more information for you soon!

I'm Ready!

Okay, I am finally back!  I had been working feverishly for the past few days trying to get these little guys baked, decorated, photographed, and edited, but stuff kept getting in the way.  So without further ado and before I called away for something, here they are!  I chickened out on doing these in royal because I could not get my thoughts out on paper quick enough so think that whole process through.  But I like how these turned out.  I so hope the cookie decorating and eating world will let me in the door with these!  I think I have found my new love!!  I hope someone likes them as much as I liked making them. Thanks for looking!

Did You Guess?

So, yeah I did not go onto a completely new path!  I am still making cakes, but I am now offering made to order cookie favors, gift baskets, bouquets, and party platters.  Cookies are a great idea for parties, presents, thank yous, anything.  I can come up with a design for you, or you can give me a theme to work from.  I can even ship them for you, if you need to send them to someone out of town.  This first one was for a teenage boy birthday.  He likes American History, Abe Lincoln, and American flags.  I had to do this one quickly and I had to work with the cutters I had on hand, so this is just a starting point for me.  I have over 200 cutters, but I there are many more I want to get or make.  Stay tuned for updates of some of my ideas I am working on.

Thanks for looking!

Sugar Fishing Lures

Here is a close up of those fondant fishing lures!  Just click on the picture to see all of them.

Bittersweet Graduation

On a side note, my nephew that I made this for found out he had cancer the day after his graduation. He has the same kind of cancer that Lance Armstrong had. The doctors are pretty positive that they have gotten it all, but he will still have to undergo chemo to make sure of that. He is a wonderfully sweet young man with so many dreams and hopes for the future, and I love him like one of my own. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. Thank you.

Here is a cake I did for my nephew's high school graduation.  I liked how the sugar pieces turned out, but I did NOT like having to put them on a buttercream cake.  The more I do all buttercream cakes, the more I do not like them.  I keep getting all of these little air bubbles in my current recipe, so the only thing I know to do is try yet another recipe.  I guess my only option right now is to do Italian meringue, but that requires me to refrigerate all of my cakes and I don't have an extra refrigerator to put them in.  I have tried going back to my all shortening based one, but the new shortenings are so heavy and they cause a lot of blow outs and sagging in the icing.  I just have to keep my chin up and charge away I guess.  When one door closes, another one opens.

The graduation cap is foam covered in fondant.  The tassel, jersey, emblem, and fishing lures are all fondant as well.  I had a super fun time making the fishing lures!  I think they would be great for a Father's Day cake, man's birthday, or groom's cake.  The cake itself is white cake with buttercream icing and the old style scrolls I learned so long ago and love.

Lindsey's Cake

This cake was for a very sweet young lady.  The picture she gave me actually had the callas only a little on the top and on the side, but the buttecream on this one gave me so many fits that I just wanted to cover the whole cake up to hide all the buttercream horror.  I realized while making it how much I dearly LOVE fondant, teehee.  Now, if someone wants to give me a used refrigerator so I can use Italian buttercream, I would be more than happy to make more all buttercream wedding cakes.  But, for now, fondant is the winner for me.......espeically with the summer heat and humidity here!

Details......I made over 50 gumpaste calla lillies for this and I loved how they turned out.  I learned a few new tricks with them too.  :o)  The cake is not too big - a 10,8,6.  The fun tidbit on this one was that I had to take it fully assembled, so it had at least 11 dowels in it!  And praise the LORD, it made it all the way to Seymour in one piece!

New Look

Hi sugar friends!  Sorry it has been so long since I posted, but my new job at the cookie company kept me pretty busy over the past few weeks.  I do have a wedding cake coming up this weekend though, and I will be posting the pictures from it as soon as I can.  In the meantime, I wanted a new look to my blog, and I finally found a look that I love.  I am still working on it and want to add things like a nifty signature and some nifty side bar fonts, but this is all very confusing to me, so please bear with me while I mess around with it all.

Anyhoo, I am a super huge fan of country french, vintage, and shabby chic and this template screamed my name out when I saw it.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!  :o)

Spare sugar

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE to play with sugar?  I was packing away these leftover flamingos and I thought I would get one last picture of them.  I wish I could keep them out to look at, but they will fade soon if I do not put them away.  I just love the pink and how much fun I had making them even if I did have to cut them all out by hand with a knife.  :o)  Why do I feel like watching Miami Vice now????

Pink Flamingos

This was a little 7" cake I threw together as quickly as I could.  It was for a 40th birthday for a very sweet lady.  The cake was white with buttercream icing, and all of the details are made from gumpaste.  Thanks for looking!
